FOSAF FLYFISHING REPORTS - Yellowfish - S.E. Mpumulanga/KZN

Date of Report: Monday, 6th May 2013
Name: Horst Filter
Phone: 082 628 7702

SOUTH EAST MPUMALANGA

Horst stated that they had good rains two weeks ago but the Phongola is clearing nicely and has a good flow for this time of year so he is optimistic about the winter fishing. In fact, since January they have had about 800 ml of rain.  He plans to start yellowfishing in earnest this weekend.

KZN MIDLANDS

The yellowfishing has been hampered by the autumn rains but as in the case of Southern Natal the rivers like the lower Mooi and Bushmans should start clearing now.

SOUTHERN NATAL

Karl Adensgaard (082 4558818) reports that after the recent rain the Umkomaas near Richmond is flowing strongly but is nice and clear and looking really great. He estimates there is about 4 weeks of good fishing left before really low temperatures puts a brake on the feeding of the scalies. They are already starting to drop back to deeper water and with the strong flow weighted nymphs are called for.
