Chris Smith, who now has the Underberg Himeville Trout Fishing Club’s cell phone kindly sent us this report: “Another month has passed but the rains have remained in and around Underberg. The rivers have been extremely full making it almost unfishable with only 4 rod visits, accounting for 1 fish. The dams saw more action with 34 rods and 8 fish recorded on the catch returns. The biggest fish recorded were between 50cm and 60cm from 3 of our dams: Lake Ringstead, Goxhill and Finelands...

FEDERATION OF SOUTHERN AFRICAN FLYFISHERS

In 1985/1986, a group of flyfishers in the Eastern and Western Cape became very concerned about developments in the sport of flyfishing in the then Cape Province. It was clear that the Cape Department of Nature Conservation wanted to deregulate the Trout Fishing Ordinance but no consultation or discussion was held with flyfishing clubs or individuals. Concerned flyfishers met and the Federation of Southern African Flyfishers (FOSAF) was formed on 1 March 1986 at the Eagles Ridge Hotel, Stutterheim.

Flyfishing Reports

FOSAF encourages fly fishing for almost all fishes but focuses primarily on Trout, Yellowfish and Saltwater species. Our correspondents in key flyfishing areas in the country submit monthly reports on angling conditions for these groups of fishes.

FOSAF is concerned about the rampant pollution of our waterways as well as the legislation that government has introduced, or which is under consideration.
